Video Tutorial – How to move tracks into Books

by Barry on July 7, 2010

When you import a book into iTunes from CD, it’s placed in the Music section like any other music CD. Since Bookmark works with tracks from the Books section of iTunes, you’ll need to move them into Books in order to listen to them. It just takes a few steps but it’s not intuitive (at least for an Apple product). This short video shows how easy it is once you’ve learned it:

Steps Summary:

  1. Select one or more tracks you want to move in the Music section
  2. Right-click then click “Get Info”
  3. Select the Options tab
  4. Check the “Media Kind” box and choose “Audiobook”
  5. The tracks will now be in the Books section

P.S. Many thanks to Michael Alderete for his post on Aldoblog that first taught me how to do this. I’ve referred Bookmark customers to this article at least 100 times.

Thanks! I download audiobooks on loan from Netlibrary, which were of course going into the Music folder; and I’ve been frustrated for months that I could not access them through Bookmark! Now I know how.

this was really helpful, but I have the opposite problem — there are audio books in my iPod Touch that show up under music and not Bookmark. Can I do the same process in reverse to get Bookmark to recognize them as audiobooks so I can use the app for listening.

Also, what are the little round dots near the name of the audiobooks in this newest update?

@Sandy,

This procedure can go either way depending on what you set for Media Kind. Bookmark 1.5 looks in Books by default but future versions will have more options for finding books. Stay tuned.

The dots are pie charts that will fill up as you listen to an audiobook. It’s a small visual indicator that lets you see your progress.

When I get audiobooks from the library I can’t get them to show up in the Bookmark Appl. I can listen to them through itunes on my iphone. I have followed the instructions on how to move tracks, but they still don’t show up in my book library, and therefore transfer to Bookmark. Any suggestions?

In the current version (1.5), Bookmark still looks for tracks in “Audiobooks” in the Music app which corresponds to “Books” in iTunes. You might want to retry the instructions then sync. Version 1.6 will be more flexible in letting you add any content you want from within the Bookmark app itself (no iTunes gymnastics required).
